What is it there for?

2 Corinthians 12:10 KJV — Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

Anytime a verse starts with “therefore” you need to understand what it is there…for.

Therefore is a response to that which preceded it.

Therefore is inevitability, consequence and responsiveness.

Therefore establishes that you have joined a vehicle that’s already in motion. You’re part of a story that started long before you showed up.

Life does not begin and end with you.

Therefore…find your meaning from the finished work of Christ that preceded you.

Remember the Word

Proverbs 31:5 KJV — Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

Your job is to keep the Word of God in all your thoughts.

You can do it. And you need to watch out for anything that would have you forget it or dilute it.

Remember the Word.

Two pages away

1 Samuel 30:6 KJV — And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

This was the lowest point in David’s journey.

And yet two pages later, two chapters later, David finally becomes king.

Don’t give up. Encourage yourself. Breakthrough is just a couple of pages away.

Diligently seek the Lord

Hebrews 11:6 KJV — But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Diligently seek the Lord.

There is a reward for doing this.

Flooding the earth

Nehemiah 9:19 KJV — Yet thou in thy manifold mercies forsookest them not in the wilderness: the pillar of the cloud departed not from them by day, to lead them in the way; neither the pillar of fire by night, to shew them light, and the way wherein they should go.

The word for manifold is the same word used to describe the great wickedness on the earth that caused God to flood it (Genesis 6:5).

Great enough to flood the earth.

That’s how great the wickedness was.

That’s how much greater God’s manifold mercies are towards you.

God cares for you so much that He is not willing for you to be overwhelmed by what you deserve.

God’s great compassion towards you covers you like the waters cover the sea.

God isn’t the destroyer

Proverbs 29:1 KJV — He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

It’s Satan. It’s the deceitfulness of sin. It’s refusing to accept Jesus’ full payment on the Cross. It’s the ‘social drinking’. It’s the driving onto a broken bridge despite all the warning signs and barriers you’ve driven through.

It’s being told the truth and continually refusing to yield to it.

That’s what causes the destruction.

God loves you. God is for you.

And God isn’t the destroyer.

Word painting

Proverbs 29:18 KJV — Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

The verse doesn’t contrast “no vision” with “having a vision”.

It contrasts “no vision” against “keeping the law”.

Or, under the new covenant, keeping the Word of God.

From God’s perspective, the word of God is the vision we’re to have.

Where there is no vision, image or picture of God’s perspective, the people perish.

Jesus, the Word of God, was given as a sacrifice so that we might not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16).

The Word of God keeps you from perishing.

Use the Word to paint a picture in your mind, will and emotions.

Stand firm

Proverbs 28:1 KJV — The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

You don’t need to flee from trouble. Trouble needs to fled from you.

Stand firm.

Be thou diligent

Proverbs 27:23 KJV — Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.

Be diligent.

Be thou diligent.

That’s your part.

God’s part is to bless you, give you the power to obtain wealth, prosper the work of your hand and give an increase to the seed you sow.

Your part is to be a diligent steward of what He’s entrusted to you.

The Holy Spirit is your Helper. He will help you be diligent.
